Competition Purpose

To cultivate the competencies required for today’s youth to connect with future career opportunities and to foster interdisciplinary innovation and collaboration, the University System of Central Taiwan (including Chung Shan Medical University, China Medical University, Asia University, Tunghai University, Feng Chia University, and Providence University), together with Taiwan partner institutions including Chang Gung University, National Taichung University of Science and Technology, National Chi Nan University, Chaoyang University of Technology, and Ling Tung University, as well as international partner universities including Shinshu University, Niigata University, University of Turin, and University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, jointly leverage the distinctive strengths and professional expertise of fifteen universities to organize the Sustainable Smart Innovation Hackathon Competition. Together, these institutions aim to establish a “Resilient and Intelligent Innovation Collaboration Platform for a Sustainable Generation.”

In 2026, the competition adopts “Go Further, Go Global” as its core vision, encouraging student teams to take on real-world global enterprise challenges and expand their perspectives toward international innovation and sustainability.

Guided by the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this competition is centered on the core themes of sustainability, intelligence, innovation, and resilience. Through real enterprise-driven challenges, participants are encouraged to apply smart technologies to create environments that promote mutual prosperity and shared value. By integrating sustainable value as the driving force of innovation, the competition connects the resilience and cross-campus resources of eleven universities in the field of smart innovation, jointly building an incubation platform for collaborative creativity and idea exchange.

The initiative seeks to optimize future industrial management and service innovation while outlining strategic blueprints for post-pandemic smart living. Furthermore, it aims to inspire new business models for future products and services, opening pathways for broader imagination and greater possibilities for development.

Since its inception in 2020, the competition has been successfully held for six consecutive years. In 2025, jointly organized by Chung Shan Medical University and ten partner universities, the competition attracted 23 enterprises proposing real-world challenge topics and received submissions from 417 teams representing 45 universities and colleges nationwide, involving approximately 1,600 students. Both the number of enterprise challenges and participating teams reached record highs.

On the day of the finals, a total of 135 finalist teams, over 650 students, and more than 100 distinguished guests and judges from academia and industry gathered for the event, creating an atmosphere of vibrant interaction and exchange. The platform has now become one of Taiwan’s largest and most influential enterprise-driven hackathon competitions.

The 2026 Hackathon, themed “Go Further, Go Global,” aims to connect students, enterprises, and universities in addressing sustainable smart innovation challenges from a global perspective. Beyond generating proposals, the event emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, iterative development, and implementation-oriented thinking, enabling participants to cultivate reproducible problem-solving capabilities and meaningful social impact through real-world scenarios.

Starting from authentic enterprise challenges, the competition translates sustainability issues into innovation topics that can be understood and addressed by young talents. Through systematic mentoring, training, and prototype validation, participants are guided in transforming concepts into feasible and impactful solutions. The final outcomes not only contribute to enterprise strategies and brand initiatives but also generate measurable and trackable social impact.

Through this competition, the platform provides opportunities for universities, enterprises, and students to engage in co-learning, co-creation, and co-growth. The initiative aims to strengthen academia-industry collaboration and research capabilities within universities while deepening partnerships with local industries. Students are encouraged to collaborate across disciplines, generating innovative sparks through interdisciplinary interaction and enhancing both their creativity and employability.

At the same time, the hackathon provides enterprises with innovative perspectives and fresh approaches to problem-solving. Innovation serves as a major driving force for industrial growth; when enterprises embrace new ideas and creativity, they can disrupt existing market equilibrium and creatively stimulate both industrial advancement and economic development.
